SICSA Faculty and Staff Members Larry Bell is a Professor of Architecture and holds an Endowed Professorship in Space Architecture. He founded SICSA and heads the MS-Space Architecture Program. Larry has also founded several successful professional design consulting and commercial high-tech companies. Larry has authored dozens of technical articles and publications, and has been featured along with his work in many prominent national and international newspapers, magazines, and television programs. He serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Space Week International, is an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and is a Fellow of the Explorers Club. Larry received the Technical Educator of the Year Award presented by the Clear Lake Council of Technical Societies at the NASA Space Center in September 2003. He is also a recipient of two of the three highest honors awarded by the Federation of Astronautics and Cosmonautics of the former U.S.S.R.: the Yuri Gagarin Diploma and the Konstantin Tsiolkovsky Gold Medal. Alejandro Colom is a Lecturer within the SICSA- sponsored undergraduate studio program. He received a Bachelor of Architecture in 1994 from the University of Houston where he studied in SICSA-sponsored fourth year studio courses. He later received a Master of Science in Architectural Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1996. As an undergraduate of SICSA, in both fourth- and fifth-year studies at UH, he brings a direct understanding to the challenges posed to students that design for extreme environments. Alejandro brings 10 years of experience in design, programming, master planning, and project management involving lead responsibilities at many large firms like CRSS, Gensler, HOK, and Spencer Partnership.   Dr. Valery Aksamentov is an Adjunct Professor with SICSA. He is at present employed at Boeing where he leads a multidisciplinary team of experts from several NASA and Boeing sites to conduct critical debris impact assessments to ensure the safe return to flight of the Space Shuttle. Valery received his Bachelor of Science and Doctorate degrees in mechanical engineering at the Moscow Aviation Institute with highest academic honors. Much of his work involved research and design related to thermal and humidity control systems for communication satellites and manned space vehicles. During the past several years, Valery has served as a guest critic and advisor for SICSA research and design activities.       Robert Morris is a Lecturer within the SICSA program. He is a licensed architect and registered interior designer in Texas. Robert teaches sustainable design in the college and is a principal of the Studio of Robert Morris. He received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Texas Tech University, and a MS-Space Architecture degree from UH/SICSA in 2006. Robert brings many years of experience in professional practice, emphasizing design sustainability in his work. He regularly participates in architectural exhibitions, and has authored magazine articles on design topics. A third is being explored between SICSA and the Center for Structures in Extreme Environments (CSEE) within the School of Engineering at Rutgers University. Other relationships may involve the Space Vehicle Laboratory at MIT and the Industrial Design Program at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.
